Another former NFL head coach is headed to Tempe to join Herm Edwards’ staff at Arizona State.

Monday, the program announced the hiring of Brian Billick, who will be the new offensive analyst and advisor to the head coach. Billick was the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 1999-2007.

During his time in Baltimore, Billick led the Ravens to a Super Bowl XXXV victory. He’s also a member of the Ravens Ring of Honor.

This will be Billick’s first time working in college football since he was an assistant head coach and tight ends coach at Stanford from 1989-91. He also had stops at BYU (1978), San Diego State (1981-85) and Utah State (1986-88).

Billick is another former NFL coach to join Edwards’ staff. Also working at Arizona State is former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, who is an advisor to the head coach.

“I have known Brian since the 1980s and he is a person whom I completely trust,” Edwards said in a statement. “He has built one of the finest reputations the NFL has ever known, serving as a head coach, an assistant coach and as a respected television analyst. Brian has one of the brightest offensive minds in football today and that is especially why I hired him. He will serve as a valuable resource to our entire coaching staff, but specifically to our offensive staff.”

Arizona State finished the 2021 season with an 8-5 record.
