Word began to spread Saturday that Pitino would likely become Iona’s next head coach, and now, it’s official. Grand Canyon also reached out to Pitino; however, Iona was the job Pitino chose.

Pitino spent 16 seasons at Louisville where he compiled a 293-143 overall record, including 13 NCAA tournaments. He made 3 Final Fours and won a national championship that was later vacated. The former Cardinals coach was let go after adidas allegedly gave a prospect’s family $100,000 to attend UL.

Pitino also coached the Boston Celtics (1997-01), Kentucky Wildcats (1989-97), New York Knicks (1987-89) and Providence (1985-87).
