The Marietta High School standout was ranked the No. 5 overall prospect, and the No. 1 tight end and the No. 1 player out of Georgia for the 2020 class.
It was reported by 247 in December that Gilbert was considering leaving LSU and suggested he was homesick and likely to return to Georgia for the remainder of the semester.
As a true freshman, Gilbert was LSU’s leading receiver after wideout Terrace Marshall Jr. opted out on Nov. 29 for the remainder of the season. Through his eight games as a starter this season, he caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns.
