The B1G is always one of the most competitive basketball conferences in the country, and this season is no different. And if you ask basketball analyst Steve Lavin, it’s the best and deepest the league has ever been.

On Monday night, Lavin was asked to provide a few of his thoughts about the conference and the quality depth it has from top to bottom. He says that, in the history of the conference, it’s never been in a better position.

“This is inarguably the deepest Big Ten Conference in the history of college basketball,” Lavin said. “Ten potential teams out of this league are likely to qualify for the NCAA tournament.”

Currently, the B1G has just four teams ranked in the latest Associated Press top 25, but several analysts are arguing the conference can reach double digits when it comes to NCAA tournament bids. Of the 14 teams in the league, 12 are .500 or better. The only squads with a losing record are Illinois and Penn State.

As the season goes along, the depth of the conference will be on full display. A few more teams will probably work their way into the rankings, as well.
