History is being made in College Football as the game between No. 7 Penn State and Illinois has reached nine overtimes.

This is the first time that a college football game has reached eight overtimes. Illinois ultimately shocked No. 7 Penn State 20-18 that took nine overtimes.

This season is the first time that the new overtime rule has come into effect. If the score is still the same after the first overtime, teams will be forced to go for a two-point conversion after their touchdown.

If teams still have the same score after double overtime, there will be alternating one two-point conversion drives.

There have been only five previous games in the history of the FBS, with the most recent being the thrilling 2018 game where Texas A&M defeated LSU 74-72.
