Iowa's dominance aside, the B1G Tournament has been incredibly competitive through 3 days
When everything is on the line, college basketball games tend to be incredibly competitive. And this time of year, it’s all or nothing. So far, it’s resulted in an extraordinarily fun B1G Tournament.
Through the first three days of the B1G Tournament, we’ve seen an incredibly competitive event. Well, unless Iowa has been on the floor. But before we get into the Hawkeyes’ dominance, here’s a look at the B1G Tournament results.
In three days, 10 games have been played:
- 8 games have been decided by single digits
- 6 games have been decided by 6 points or less
- 3 games have been decided by 1 possession
Here’s a look at those single-digit contests:
Wednesday, March 9 (Round 1)
- Northwestern def. Nebraska: 71-69
- Penn State def. Minnesota: 60-51
Thursday, March 10 (Round 2)
- Indiana def. Michigan: 74-69
- Michigan State def. Maryland: 76-72
- Penn State def. Ohio State: 71-68
Friday, March 11 (Quarterfinals)
- Indiana def. Illinois: 65-63
- Michigan State def. Wisconsin: 69-63
- Purdue def. Penn State: 69-61
The only two games that didn’t fall into the single-digit difference category involved Iowa. The Hawkeyes’ prolific offense has been too much for Northwestern and Rutgers to handle.
Iowa defeated Northwestern 112-76 on Thursday and posted an 84-74 victory over Rutgers on Friday. The Hawkeyes are averaging 98 points per game in their two contests. Star forward Keegan Murray has scored 26 points in each of the first two games.
Will we see more of the same competitiveness in the semifinal round? Will Iowa’s dominance continue? It should be fun to watch the final two days in Indianapolis leading up to Selection Sunday.
