Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain suffered a seizure on Sunday, he announced on Twitter.

McElwain gave an update on his health condition and made a statement about the situation. He remains in the hospital (Via 247Sports):

“On Sunday I had a seizure,” McElwain said. “I’m doing fine and all the tests have come back good. The doctors have asked that I stay in the hospital for a few days, so I won’t be at MAC Media Day. I know Coach (Robb) Akey, Lew (Nichols) and Jamezz (Kimbrough) will do a great job. I can’t wait to get camp started.”

McElwain will stay in the hospital for the next few days and he will miss the MAC Football Media Day. He will have several coaches appearing in his place.

This will be McElwain’s fourth season at Central Michigan. In 2021, Central Michigan finished the season with a 9-4 record and a Sun Bowl win over Washington State. The Chippewas are 20-13 under McElwain since 2019.

Before his time at Central Michigan, McElwain was a head coach at Colorado State and Florida. As an assistant coach, he worked for Michigan State and Michigan. Michigan was his last stop as an assistant coach in 2018 before he accepted the Central Michigan job.

Wishing McElwain a speedy recovery!
