Joe Moore Award: 3 B1G teams crack midseason honor roll for top O-line
The Joe Moore Award is given annually to the top offensive line unit in college football.
On Tuesday, the Award announced that it has revealed 23 units that are “gaining attention” of the voting committee at the midway point of the 2023 season. Of those 23, 3 hail from the Big Ten.
You could probably guess the 3. It’s Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State, the head-and-shoulders top 3 in the conference. All 3 are playing incredibly well on offense this season, and that always pays back to strong offensive line play.
Of these 3, Penn State’s may be the most impressive so far. The Nittany Lions have allowed just 3 sacks on the season and boast the B1G’s top scoring offense with the 2nd most yards per game behind only the Buckeyes. Ohio State has allowed 10 sacks this season while Michigan is sitting at 7 sacks allowed.
Official semifinalists for the award will be announced on November 14 with finalists being selected on December 5. The award will be given by a “surprise visit to the winning university’s campus in late December,” according to a release Tuesday.
