Joel Klatt lists 8 teams that 'control their destiny' in CFB Playoff race
The calendar has switched to November, which means, at most, college football teams have one-third of their regular season remaining. There’s plenty of football left, but it’s crunch time.
With the first College Football Playoff rankings come out Tuesday, FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt broke down the race to the final four in a rather simplistic way Sunday night. Klatt tweeted a list of eight teams that if they win out, they will be in the playoffs.

The SEC also had three teams on Klatt’s list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean either the B1G or SEC is guaranteed a spot or hold a great chance of placing two teams in the playoff. In the B1G, no matter what happens over the next four weeks, the conference can’t have more than one undefeated team because Penn State, Minnesota and Ohio State will all play each other if they keeps winning. The same is true in the SEC.
In the ACC and Big 12, things are a little simpler with their front runners. If Clemson and Baylor win out, they are in the playoffs. Should the B1G and SEC champions also be undefeated, then there are the four playoff teams right there. No committee will be necessary.
Of course, that’s not likely to happen. In the playoff era, there has never been four undefeated teams in a single playoffs.
While Klatt’s list is correct, all it will take is a couple of those teams losing unexpectedly for Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah to re-enter the playoff picture.
