Joel Klatt spent the Thursday edition of his show previewing the upcoming conference championship matchups. One of the most anticipated of these matchups is the Big Ten Championship Game between Oregon and Penn State.

The Ducks are looking to win the conference in their first season as a member. The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, are looking for their first conference championship since 2016. Entering this matchup, the Ducks are a perfect 12-0 while the Nittany Lions are 11-1.

While these teams have both had impressive seasons, Klatt likes this matchup for Oregon.

“I look at the struggles that Penn State has had against teams like Oregon,” said Klatt. “I look at just the sound nature that Oregon has, I don’t think they’re going to flinch. They’ve got the experienced quarterback.”

The Ducks are No. 15 in the nation in total offense and No. 7 in total defense. The Nittany Lions, meanwhile, are No. 19 in total offense and No. 4 in total defense. As of Thursday, the Ducks are 3.5-point favorites in this matchup per bet365.

“3.5 points is not enough,” Klatt said. “I like Oregon winning the Big Ten Championship 31-21 in Indianapolis. They win it by 10 and they cover the 3.5.”

This will be the 5th all-time meeting between these teams and the first since 1995. Of the 4 previous matchups, the Nittany Lions hold a 3-1 all-time edge.

No matter the outcome of this game, both teams appear to be safely in the College Football Playoff. However, the winning team will receive a first-round bye.

This game will kick off from Indianapolis on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 pm PT.
