John Calipari calls SEC top conference: ‘We are the best league and our teams deserve that respect’

Bracketology projections have the Big Ten sending the most teams to the NCAA Tournament, but John Calipari believes the SEC is the best basketball conference of the 2021-22 season.
The Kentucky head coach took to Twitter to campaign for SEC teams that went .500 in conference play to make the Big Dance. Calipari said it’s about “respect” for the “best league.”
Any team in the SEC that’s 9-9 should be in the NCAA Tournament.
The top four teams in our league went 35-1 at home. Crazy!
We are the best league and our teams deserve that respect!!

In the SEC, Alabama, Florida, LSU, South Carolina and Texas A&M all finished 9-9 in conference play. Calipari appears to be looking at the bracketology projections. While Alabama and LSU are projected to make the NCAA Tournament, ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has Florida as a “Next Four Out” team while Texas A&M is in the group beyond that. South Carolina is currently not in the March Madness picture.

Calipari’s conference peers will certainly appreciate his lobbying, but he’ll also likely be reminded of his tweet throughout the tournament.
