Jordan Burch’s status remains to be seen for No. 3 Oregon’s highly anticipated matchup against No. 2 Ohio State, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The report states that sources have said that Burch suffered a lower-body injury during practice Thursday.
The defensive end is one of the team’s most important player, and definitely the most essential to the Ducks’ success on that side of the ball, so it’s going to be quite the blow for Oregon if he is indeed unable to take the field. He’s expected to be a first or second-round NFL Draft pick, and has lived up to the expectation so far this season as one of the nation’s top defensive linemen.
Over five games, he totals 19 combined tackles (7 solo), 5 sacks, 3 passes defended and 1 fumble recovery. The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder most recently tallied 4 tackles (2 solo), 2.5 sacks and 1 fumble recovery in the 31-10 win over the Michigan State Spartans.
Oregon and Ohio State are set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. PT in Autzen Stadium. The last time these two teams met, it was the Ducks who came out with the 35-28 victory in 2021. But if Burch is unable to go, it could ultimately determine the outcome of what’s expected to be a close game.
