Julius Campbell, a high school football star who was portrayed in the film “Remember the Titans” has passed away at 65, according to a report.

The Washington Post reported on Friday that Campbell passed away from organ failure.

Campbell attended T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va. The school was the subject of the film “Remember the Titans,” which highlight’s the football team’s 1971 undefeated season and state championship run. The movie also highlighted the town’s racial tension during the football season.

“Julius was very, very instrumental on that team at simply getting kids to just talk to one another, kids who never talked to kids from another race their entire lives,” former T.C. Williams head coach Herman Boone told The Post. “By doing so, they learned many things about each other that were not passed down to them and for that, the world owes Julius a debt of gratitude.”

Campbell was one of the player’s highlighted in the movie. After high school, Campbell played college football at Ferrum Junior College, but had plans to transfer to a major program. An ankle injury prevented him from moving on to a bigger school.

“He had a hell of a sense of humor,” Boone said. “Everybody loved being around Julius Campbell.”
