KenPom’s 2024-25 preseason rankings released late Sunday night just a few weeks before the tip of the new season in November.

The Big Ten fared well in Ken Pomeroy’s latest rankings. The conference is ranked 3rd in the country behind only the SEC and Big 12 and is the only conference in the country with all its members inside the top 75. That’s especially impressive given the fact the Big Ten has ballooned to 18 members.

Here’s a look at the preseason placement for all 18 Big Ten teams:

  • Purdue: No. 10
  • Illinois: No. 23
  • UCLA: No. 26
  • Oregon: No. 29
  • Ohio State: No. 31
  • Iowa: No. 33
  • Michigan State: No. 35
  • Michigan: No. 36
  • Maryland: No. 37
  • Indiana: No. 39
  • Wisconsin: No. 46
  • Northwestern: No. 50
  • Nebraska: No. 56
  • USC: No. 57
  • Minnesota: No. 59
  • Penn State: No. 61
  • Rutgers: No. 63
  • Washington: No. 75

As you can see, the Big Ten is ready to cannibalize itself this season. The conference doesn’t have any teams ranked in single digits but has 10 teams ranked within the top 40 and 11 teams from 20-50. And to be honest, I think Purdue is just a smidge high.

There’s going to be no telling who the alpha in this conference is, maybe not until well into January. Rutgers, which just scored 2 of the top-rated commits in program history, is ranked 2nd to last in the conference but could very easily be a top 5 squad in the Big Ten by season’s end.

The 2024-25 college basketball season tips off on November 4.
