Kevin Warren discusses benefits, challenges of B1G adding USC, UCLA
B1G commissioner Kevin Warren confirmed that UCLA and USC will join the conference as full members in 2024.
In late June, it was announced that the two schools would be leaving the Pac-12 for the B1G. The addition of UCLA and USC will have an impact on the conference from an athletic and academic standpoint. Warren noted the importance of academics in his conference and adding two renowned academic schools will help the conference:

“I grew up in a household of educators…academics is incredibly important to what I do on a daily basis and I take very seriously,” Warren said. “I always think through the opportunities – not as the issues or problems – but the opportunities…We have 2 years to plan. We have built a kind of Big Ten readiness committee to prepare…I look at it not as a negative but as a positive from an academic standpoint. We’ll work through the scheduling issues over the next 2 years to make it a positive and not a negative.”
Warren will have 2 years to plan out the entrances for the two new schools. Not only will it be important to add USC and UCLA for their programs, but they have strong alumni bases throughout the country.

“The largest selection of B1G alumni – other than the Midwest – is in Los Angeles,” Warren said.
With the two schools being based in Los Angeles, it will add a larger alumni network to Los Angeles.
When the realignment takes place, football games will take place throughout the day on Saturdays. There will be games in the morning and at night:

The B1G will have to wait two years before they officially make the additions, but the conference is prepared to expand.
