It’s never too early to start thinking about the College Football Playoff.

Tuesday morning, once the dust had settled after an endless supply of college football stretched over a five-day period, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit unveiled his Top 4 after Week 1. And there aren’t many surprises.

Herbstreit has Alabama in the top spot followed by Clemson at No. 2. Ohio State came in at No. 3 and Georgia was in the final spot at No. 4.

His next two are Oklahoma and Auburn.

Most of the teams mentioned won in convincing fashion in Week 1. Here are the results from those six teams:

  • Alabama def. Louisville 51-14
  • Clemson def. Furman 48-7
  • Ohio State def. Oregon State 77-31
  • Georgia def. Austin Peay 45-0
  • Oklahoma def. Florida Atlantic 63-14
  • Auburn def. Washington 21-16

Auburn was the only team that really registered a signature win, taking down a ranked Huskies team.

So there you go. If the season ended today, after the first weekend of the season, those are the four teams Herbstreit would have in the College Football Playoff.

We’ll see how drastically this thing changes throughout the course of the season.
