Kirk Herbstreit has started to expand his Twitter presence this year.
Typically, the ESPN college football analyst has just announced his top four rankings and top performers after each week of the season. Recently, though, Herbie has started releasing the best coaching performances from each week.
Monday, Herbstreit unveiled the coaches he thought performed the best in Week 11. He had two B1G coaching staffs in the mix.
Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck was the top-ranked B1G coach on the list, following the Gophers’ 41-10 win over Purdue. No. 3 was Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald and defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz. The Wildcats knocked off Iowa 14-10 to claim the B1G West title.
My top coaching performances of the week for WEEK 11
1-Kyle Whittingham @Utah_Football
2-PJ Fleck @GopherFootball
3-Pat Fitzgerald/Mike Hankwitz @NUFBFamily
4-Kirby Smart/Mel Tucker @FootballUGA 4
5-Mike Leach/Tracy Claeys @WSUCougFB
5-Justin Wilcox @CalFootball— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) November 12, 2018
Other coaches in the mix were Kyle Whittingham (Utah), Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker (Georgia) and Justin Wilcox (Cal).
It’s hard to argue with Herbstreit’s B1G mentions. There were major implications for both Minnesota and Northwestern last week. The Gophers are now just one win away from bowl eligibility while the Wildcats punched their ticket to Indianapolis.
We’ll see if any B1G coaches are in Herbie’s top five again next week.
