Kirk Herbstreit has some major concerns related to Oregon, even though the Ducks might be one of the most talented teams in the country.

Dan Lanning’s program has been on a quick rise under his leadership, and many analysts viewed Oregon as a true competitor in the Big Ten and for the College Football Playoff. However, Herbstreit wonders if the loss of veteran quarterback Bo Nix has impacted the focus of the team.

“I think they definitely have enough time to get it right. Bo Nix meant so much to that team, you can never underestimate what a great leader means to a team’s focus,” said Herbstreit. “And there’s been so much preseason hype with Oregon. I’m sure Dan Lanning is doing his best to get his guys to lock in, to respect the opponent.”

Talent aside, Herbstreit’s a bit concerned by the lack of fight he has seen so far from Oregon. ESPN’s popular broadcaster said it was a touch of nastiness that made Oregon tough to contend with a season ago, but he hasn’t seen that same edge this fall.

“They don’t look like they have the same fight that they had last year. It’s only 2 games, but I think they should stop listening and reading their press clippings and get focused on work… I haven’t seen that (chip on the shoulder) yet from this team in their first two games,” Herbstreit explained.

This weekend provides a great opportunity for the Ducks to find that edge with the in-state rivalry showdown vs. Oregon State. Oregon enters the matchup as a big favorite on the road, and there should be no lack of edge with the old Pac-12 rivalry renewed in Week 3.
