Kirk Herbstreit is a long-time broadcaster for college football and is a staple on ESPN’s College GameDay coverage. However, he added an additional role to his coverage in 2022.

During the 2022 season, Herbstreit is trying his hand with NFL coverage. He is serving alongside Al Michaels as a part of the Thursday Night Football coverage for games broadcast on Amazon Prime.

For Week 2 of the NFL, that includes a marquee AFC West matchup in Kansas City between the Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. It should be a great game, and Herbstreit and Michaels are tasked with doing the action justice with their call.

Initial reactions to the broadcast have been mixed but mostly positive. While some fans have noted it is indeed weird to hear Herbstreit on the call for an NFL game, most admit the transition will likely be smooth.

It will be interesting to see how Herbstreit and Michael pair throughout the year. They’ll no doubt develop even more chemistry as the year goes along.
