Life in the $EC: Johnny Manziel reveals he made over $30K by signing autographs before 2013 season
It’s been nearly a decade since Johnny Manziel last wore the Texas A&M uniform, and now he’s ready and willing to talk about some of the money he earned as a quarterback for the Aggies.
Recently joining the Bussin’ with the Boys podcast from Barstool Sports, Manziel talked about making $33,000 to sign autographs before the start of the 2013 college football season. The year before, Manziel was named the winner of the Heisman Trophy.
The NCAA actually launched an investigation into allegations that Manziel was profiting off memorabilia he was autographing. Now, nearly 10 years after the matter, the former Aggies quarterback is talking about how he learned some extra money.
“This guy comes up behind me, he’s like, ‘Yo, how would you wanna make 3 grand?'” Manziel said. “I turn around, I’m like, f*** yeah, bro!'”
Manziel said he signed approximately 1,000 items before someone else offered him a deal to sign memorabilia for $30,000.
“So, this guy’s pretty much, ‘All right, go to this room at the Fontainebleau. All this stuff will be in there laid out. When you’re done, just send me a picture of all of it. I’ll give you the code to the safe, the money will be in there,'” Manziel said.
Could the NCAA go back and vacate Texas A&M’s 2013 season with Manziel’s confession? He says he really doesn’t care about it if that’s what the association chooses to do.
“We went 9-4 the next year, so if the NCAA wants to take my f***ing 9-4 season away, my Chick-Fil-A Bowl against Duke, f***ing blow me,” Manziel said.
Manziel was also clear in stating that he did not take any money before he won the Heisman Trophy.
