LSU has never been the same for the wrong reasons since the 15-0 overall record in 2019 that includes a win in the College Football Playoff National Championship. LSU’s director of athletics Scott Woodward and head coach Ed Orgeron have admitted this.
On Sunday, both parties understood that is best for the football program if Orgeron’s title as head coach ends at the conclusion of the 2021 season. Orgeron will remain as the head coach of LSU through the remainder of the season, including a potential bowl game.
After 2019, Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Joe Burrow left for the NFL. Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda left to be the head coach of the Baylor Bears. Finally, offensive coordinator Joe Brady left for the same position with the Carolina Panthers.
LSU is 9-8 since the 2019 season and the departure of those key personnel. Orgeron has not seen the same level of productivity or anywhere close to it since that season.
