Not often do starting quarterbacks opt for the transfer portal, but that’s the case down at LSU. Max Johnson has decided to look for opportunities outside of Baton Rouge.

In a tweet on Tuesday night, Johnson announced that he would be leaving the LSU program. The news comes after Brian Kelly was introduced as the next head coach of the Tigers.

“LSU, Thank you for allowing me to pursue my academic and athletic career here,” Johnson wrote. “I have made strong relationships that will last a lifetime with coaches, staff and especially my teammates! With careful and prayerful consideration, I am entering the transfer portal.”

Johnson threw for 2,814 yards and 27 touchdowns with just 6 interceptions during a 6-6 season for the Tigers. He completed over 60% of his passes and tossed 3 touchdowns or more in 6 games in the 2021 campaign.

Johnson will leave Baton Rouge with 3,883 passing yards and 35 touchdown tosses. He also was responsible for over 100 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground.
