Maryland running back out for season with knee injury
Maryland running back Lorenzo Harrison III just can’t seem to catch a break.
Harrison, a 5-foot-8, 198 pound junior, was hit with the injury bug earlier this season and had to miss the Terrapins’ last two games with a hamstring. The good part about that injury was that he was able to get back rather quickly, returning to Maryland practice this past week, in full.
The bad news?

It’s being reported that Harrison has been hurt again, this time hurting his knee in practice. The injury will require surgery, which means his season is officially over.
Harrison lamented the injury on his Instagram, though he does seem to be taking a positive approach to the unfortunate event.
“This morning I found out my season was over, due to an injury in practice earlier in the week,” he wrote. “Prior to this injury, I missed our last two games because of a strained hamstring. Just when I thought I was ready to go, in my first full practice back, God had another plan for me. Over time I’ve learned that adversity is a lifelong battle in which we get to find out a lot about ourselves. Each time it creeps up on us we’re faced with two options; succumb to it or embrace it….With that being said, I’ll be undergoing surgery tomorrow morning on my right knee to repair some damage. See ya’ll next season, I promise it will be worth the wait.”
If there’s any good news here for Harrison it’s the fact that he has only played in two games this season for the Terrapins, thus he’ll qualify for a medical redshirt and should easily be able to get this season of eligibility left.
That could end up being a good thing for Maryland as well, considering the potential Harrison has flashed and the experience and maturity he’s bound to have starting in next season.
Over his first three seasons at Maryland, the running back has totalled 235 carries for 1,339 yards and nine touchdowns.
