It’s widely assumed that one of the main goals for a college football coach is to win the conference. Well, it appears Iowa State’s Matt Campbell is one of the outliers.
Iowa State entered the 2021 season coming off a trip to the Big 12 title game. The expectations on the outside apparently didn’t match what Campbell set as goals for Iowa State.
During his press conference on Nov. 17, Campbell oddly dismissed the notion that he set a goal for winning the Big 12. Instead he offered a more abstract objective:

Iowa State is currently 6-4 overall and fourth place in the Big 12. The Cyclones most recently lost 41-38 at Texas Tech last weekend.
Next up for Iowa State is a road matchup at No. 13 Oklahoma on Nov. 20 (12 p.m. EST/FOX).
