It’s still too early to tell, but there could be a slew of B1G defensive backs going off the board early in the 2017 NFL draft.
A lot of that could depend on which stay in school and which go, but either way, several could fly off the board in the first round.
That’s the way Todd McShay sees it playing out. At least for now.
In his first mock, the ESPN draft expert has not one, but two B1G defensive backs selected in the top five. He has both Jabrill Peppers and Marshon Lattimore going off the board.
Both of those players are underclassmen who haven’t declared for the draft yet, but both have done plenty in 2016 to show they’re ready for the next level.
Including Jourdan Lewis, McShay had three B1G defensive backs selected in the first round. Lewis was one of three Michigan players in the first round, which was the only B1G team with multiple selections off the board.
Here’s how McShay had B1G players slotted:
PICK, NFL TEAM | PLAYER, POSITION | SCHOOL |
---|---|---|
4. Chicago Bears | Jabrill Peppers, LB/S | Michigan |
5. Tennessee Titans | Marshon Lattimore, CB | Ohio State |
14. Buffalo Bills | Ryan Ramczyk, OT | Wisconsin |
21. Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Malik McDowell, DT | Michigan State |
26. Pittsburgh Steelers | Taco Charlton, DT | Michigan |
28. Oakland Raiders | Jourdan Lewis, CB | Michigan |
