Miami quarterback D’Eriq King will miss the remainder of the season as he plans to undergo shoulder surgery. Head coach Miami Diaz broke the news to the Joe Rose Show on Monday morning.

Freshman Tyler Van Dykes will take over for the Hurricanes under center.

King played in 3 games this season throwing for 767 yards, 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions with a 66.4% completion rate. He also totaled 96 yards on 40 carries.

Van Dykes has also played in 3 games this season. In his appearances, the freshman has completed 25-of-41 attempts for 473 yards and 4 touchdowns and no picks. He’s also accounted for 1 rushing touchdown.

Miami is currently 2-3 on the season and has yet to defeat a Power 5 opponent. It has registered wins over Appalachian State and Central Connecticut State and losses to Alabama, Michigan State and Virginia.

King spent 4 seasons at Houston before transferring to Miami. He decided to take advantage of the NCAA’s blanket waiver for fall student-athletes following the 2020 campaign and return to The U. With the latest injury news, there’s a good chance King has taken his last snap for the Hurricanes.

In his college career, King has thrown for 8,378 yards and 76 touchdowns with a career completion rate of 63.1%. He’s also rushed for 2,055 yards and 32 touchdowns.
