The Michigan Gaming Control Board reported its June figures for Michigan online sports betting and the state recorded its highest ever total online sports betting tax payment.

The gaming control board reported $235,125,334 in online sports betting handle for the month of June, a decrease from the May figure of $237,551,158. However, the total online sports betting state tax payment rose to $927,575 for the month, increased from its May payment of $615,152. It’s the highest amount the state’s casinos have paid in online sports betting taxes since its sports betting launch.

Coupled with its retail sports betting tax payment ($86,782) June’s total tax payment eclipsed the $1 million mark for the first time ever.

Positive tax payments for Michigan online sports betting

The clear-cut leader for the month for online operators is FanDuel Michigan, which is partnered with the MotorCity Casino. The operator totaled $77.2 million in online sports betting handle and paid the state a whopping $476,309 in taxes. However, Bet MGM Michigan, which is partnered with the MGM Grand Detroit, also posted a strong June, recording $52.09 million in online sports betting handle and playing the state $246,578 in taxes for the month.

Barstool Sportsbook, which is partnered with Greektown Casino, also showed improved numbers for June. It’s handle declined from $18.1 million in May to $16.7 million in June, but it’s online sports betting tax payment increased by more than 100% over the month to $85,447.

DraftKings Michigan posted its ever first online sports betting payment, $78,396, to the state in June, an encouraging sign for the sportsbook operator as it continues to gain a foothold in the Michigan market. DraftKings June online sports betting handle was $56.5 million, a decrease from its May total of $66.7 million, but it’s adjusted gross sports betting receipts skyrocketed from -$781,131 in May to $3.3 million in June.

Here are the rest of the online sportsbook results for June:

  • William Hill, which has partnered with the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, had a solid month as well, increasing its online sports betting handle to $7.9 million and paying Michigan $24,434 in online sports betting taxes after playing nothing in April and May.
  • FoxBet Michigan, which has partnered with the Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians, reported $3.7 million in handle for June and paid Michigan $16,409 in online sports betting taxes, a slight decrease from its May payment.
  • Wynn Bet, which has partnered with the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, saw an increase in its sports betting handle to $5.4 million in June, up from $1.4 million in May. However, its adjusted gross sports betting receipts plummeted to -$464,099 and the operator did not make an online sports betting tax payment to the state.
  • BetRivers, which has partnered with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians, saw a slight decrease in June online sports betting handle to $2.4 million. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
  • PointsBet Michigan, which has partnered with Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, reported $10.2 million in online sports betting handle for June. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
  • Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, which operates online under its Four Winds Casino brand, reported $607,100 in online handle. It has yet to make any online sports betting tax payments to the state.
  • Hannahville Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Churchill Downs Inc., reported $1.2 million in handle for June.  It has not yet made a tax payment to Michigan.
  • Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, which operates online through its partnership with Golden Nugget, reported $914,393 in total handle for June. It did not make a tax payment to Michigan this month, but its adjusted gross sports betting receipts increased from -$17,803 in May to $50,036 in June.
