There will be some players missing from SMU’s game against UCF on Oct. 5. In fact, those players will also be missing for the season per Joseph Hoyt of Dallas News.

Those players are S Isaiah Nwokobia, DB Chace Cromartie, WR Roderick Daniels Jr., and WR Jayleen Record.

The players are wanting to keep their redshirt years, and are entering the transfer portal immediately. A few people on the SMU staff who knew about what was happening revealed the news on Monday.

This is a very interesting time to do this since the Mustangs have only played four games this season so far. According to the ncsasports.org, a student has to be full-time and have not played in more than four games to keep their redshirt year. The Mustangs have played four games and are 2-2.

This could explain why the four SMU players decided to do this at this point in the season. We’ll see if SMU football releases a statement about the player’s decisions.
