An NAIA college football program has decided to cancel the 2019 season because of a shortage of players on the team.

Football Scoop reported that Lindenwood-Belleville has canceled its upcoming football season due to budget concerns and, ultimately, a limited number of players interested. This decision comes shortly after the school announced it will cease all undergraduate degree programs following the 2020 spring semester.

From Football Scoop:

A source recently shared with FootballScoop the news that Lindenwood-Belleville is cancelling the 2019 season due to a lack of depth at key positions. Players are now faced with scrambling to find for a new place to play with the season less than two months away, as opposed to players being able to play in the fall and look to transfer mid-year. All told, about 60 players with the program will be looking for landing spots, we’re told. Also, a number of programs on twill be looking to fill 2019 open dates immediately.

Lindenwood-Belleville, located in Belleville, Illinois, has not won a game since the 2015 season. It had been on a 31-game losing streak.
