NBC has been working on compiling the network’s crew that will be responsible for the new coverage of the B1G. Titled Big Ten Saturday Night, NBC will air a weekly matchup in primetime as a part of the B1G’s new media rights deal.

Already, NBC has announced its broadcast team that will work the weekly games out of the B1G. Now, the network is reportedly adding another piece to the studio crew.

According to Andrew Marchand with The New York Post, NBC is adding former USC and NFL QB Matt Cassel for pre-game coverage. Cassel played for USC in college and was a 7th-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He played for 7 NFL teams from 2005-18 and was named to the Pro Bowl for the 2010 season as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Per Cassel’s Twitter bio, he is currently an analyst for NBC Sports Boston. Cassel spent the first 4 seasons of his NFL career with the New England Patriots.

NBC’s B1G crew

Earlier in the year, NBC announced the broadcast crew of Todd Blackledge (analyst) and Noah Eagle (play-by-play) in the booth. Kathryn Tappen will work as the sideline reporter for the crew.

In addition to the broadcast team, NBC is reportedly working on a traveling pre-game show similar to ESPN’s College GameDay and FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff. One ex-player reportedly targeted for a role on that show is former Wisconsin star and All-Pro defender JJ Watt.
