Basketball is just around the corner, and the NCAA is exploring options for their March Madness tournament.

The Men’s and Women’s NCAA tournament is exploring options to hold a joint event for the Final Four in the future, the NCAA announced on Thursday morning.

The earliest such an event could take place in 2027. The NCAA would not make the transition sooner because both Men’s and Women’s Final Fours have contracts up until the 2026 season.

Nina King, the chair of the women’s basketball committee and athletic director at Duke, commented on the potential of a joint event.

“We are committed to continuing discussion about the concept of conducting both the Women’s and Men’s Final Fours in the same city in the next bid cycle for each of these premier NCAA Championships,” King said in a press release. “Finding ways to address the gender equity issues that have come to exist through the years between the Division I Women’s and Men’s Basketball Championships is a priority, and we are dedicated to making impactful changes.”
