The NCAA’s Division 1 Council announced some changes to the rules about transfer windows. There are now some exceptions for graduate transfers per Meghan Durham of NCAA.org.

This is a change to the rule about transfer windows. Student-athletes that play fall sports can only enter the transfer portal 45 days after championship selections, or from May 1-15.

Graduate transfers no longer have to rely on the new transfer windows to enter the portal anymore. If a graduate transfer plays a fall sport like football, they now just have to enter the portal before May 1.

The new ruling will begin effective immediately. It looks like life for graduate transfers just got a whole lot easier in some regards.

Here is the reasoning that the council gave for its decision:

The college application process occurs earlier in the year for graduate students, and today’s vote provides immediate relief for college students who are interested in pursuing graduate programs at other schools next year while competing in their given sports. The Council will continue to evaluate this issue and consider more permanent modifications to rules related to postgraduate participation.
