It looks like official Bert Smith is doing okay after a scary collapse Tuesday evening.

During the first half of the Elite Eight showdown between USC and Gonzaga, Smith suddenly fell on his back, hitting his head on the court in the process. There was no collision or apparent injury that induced the incident.

Medical personnel was quick to tend to Smith and he was able to be helped to his feet and was conscious shortly after the incident. He was carted off the court as a precautionary measure.

Thankfully, reporter Andy Katz provided an update on Smith’s condition at halftime of the game. According to Katz, Smith was not being transported to a hospital and was alert and stable on-site at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hopefully, that is a sign that this was a freak isolated incident for Smith.

The action on the court has not been close throughout the first half. Gonzaga dominated the action against USC and carried a 19-point lead into the break as the Bulldogs look to roll into the Final Four with an undefeated record.
