The new rule was approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel, and will be going into affect for the 2022-2023 season. If an official decides that a player was flopping, then the other team will be able to shoot a free throw as a result. The rule before this new change allowed for officials to only give the guilty party a warning before deciding if a certain player had flopped.
This ruling could change the game of college basketball forever. If it ends up truly stopping players from flopping to get more foul calls, then maybe it could catch on in other sports as well.
Only time will tell the impact that this has on men’s college basketball.
