The 1st day of the NCAA Tournament for the B1G was an up and down one.

The day began with 11-seed Michigan upsetting 6-seed Colorado State 75-63. The Rams led the Wolverines for the majority of the game up until the 10:30 mark in the 2nd half. Hunter Dickinson was the team’s scoring leader, finishing the game with 21 points. The Wolverines will now face the 3-seed Tennessee Volunteers Saturday at 5:15 ET on CBS.

Then, 5-seed Iowa was upset by 12-seed Richmond 67-63. Much like the Michigan game, the Hawkeyes were down for most of the game. Iowa went into halftime down 29-28. The Hawkeyes would jump out in front of the Spiders early in the 2nd half, thanks to an 11-6 run out of halftime. Iowa never led again after the great start it had to the 2nd half. Lack of shooting and turnovers would eventually cost the Hawkeyes the win. Iowa finished with a 36% field goal percentage, 20% from 3-point range, along with 11 turnovers when it was all over.

The last B1G game of the day came down to 5-seed St.Mary’s vs 12-seed Indiana. The Hoosiers were pummeled by the Gaels in an 82-53 blowout loss, ending what many thought could be a Tournament run for Mike Woodson’s team. The shocking thing was that this game was competitive for the most of the 1st half. Then, the Gaels went on a 10-2 run with 4 minutes left in the half to go up 40-28. After that, St. Mary’s never let go of the lead again. Yet another B1G team was limited by a poor shooting performance and sloppy turnovers, as Indiana shot 34% from the floor with 18 turnovers after 2 halves. Trayce Jackson-Davis and Xavier Johnson were the leaders in scoring with 12 and 11 points.
