Fall camps are going on across the country and the 2019 college football season is set to begin in less than a week.

Big Ten football doesn’t start until late August and Nebraska’s first game is on Aug. 31 at home against South Alabama. The time to prepare for South Alabama is coming.

Ahead of that time, on Monday, the crew at Big Ten Network was in Lincoln to check out what the Huskers were all about. In the morning, Nebraska defensive coordinator Erik Chinander spoke with the media.

He addressed many different topics, but one was about the locker room and its mentality:

“If your great players are turds, then the young guys are going to act like turds…you know what I mean? We say it all the time…there’s two types of turds, a sinker or a floater, but you’re still a turd, right? When you have really good people that are the best players, that helps the locker room tremendously.”

Well, that’s certainly an interesting way to put it, coach. But, we do get it.

If a team wants to have great leadership at the top, those leaders can’t be bad human beings. If they are, it will trickle down to the rest of the team and quickly the culture can turn sour.

Nebraska starts out the 2019 season ranked No. 24 in the country and we’ll get to see the leadership and team itself in action later this month.
