It appeared to be up in the air for a while, but the University of Nebraska has officially canceled its season opener against the Akron Zips due to a terrible storm.

The game actually kicked off — the only play of the game — but it was quickly delayed due to a massive storm that swept over Memorial Stadium and sent people packing.

There was some speculation (via Reddit) that the game was actually going to be moved to Sunday, but the Huskers made it officially on their Twitter account:

There has been no news of a make-up date between the two schools, but considering the fact that it’s a non-conference game that likely would have been very lopsided in Nebraska’s favor, it may not have meant much anyhow.

Simply put, it was a preseason game for the Huskers, who can now put this highlight on their 2018-19 reel:

Nebraska will take on Colorado in Lincoln next Saturday on ABC. The Buffaloes are 1-0 after a 45-13 win over rival Colorado State.
