The NFL reportedly settled on the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta as the site for an AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs.

A Bills-Chiefs game would be played in a neutral site in Atlanta. The NFL determined that if the Bills reached the AFC Championship Game against the Chiefs, it would need to be held in a neutral site since the Bills were unable to play a 17th game.

The lack of a 17th game hampered the Bills’ ability to earn the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs. The Chiefs ended up securing the No. 1 seed with a 31-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18.

If the AFC Championship Game does not feature a Bills-Chiefs matchup, the game would be held in the normal home-field advantage manner. In AFC Championship Games, the higher-seeded team hosts the lower-seeded team. If this season’s championship game features a Bills-Bengals matchup, it would not be at a neutral site, since the Bengals were unable to get past the Bills and Chiefs for the No. 1 seed.

The NFL was able to determine a potential neutral site location for a Bills-Chiefs showdown. The AFC Championship Game is set for Sunday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
