This young football player just made the play of his life.

According to Matt Durr with MLive.com, Ratavian Rinkines is a sophomore defensive back with the Northern Michigan University football team. The young player recently began practices and preparation for the upcoming football season, but not before making a great save Sunday.

Rinkines said he was enjoying a day at Lake Superior when he noticed a man struggling in the water. He tried to get the attention of the man’s wife, but reacted quickly when she could not hear the commotion:

“I was sitting on the beach next to Black Rocks and noticed this man jump in,” Rinkines said in a press release. “I saw that he was swimming but then seemed to stop and start yelling for his wife. I realized he must be drowning so I started yelling up to his wife but she couldn’t hear me so I sprinted around the beach and then climbed down to pull him out of the water.”

Rinkines went on to say the man told him he was swimming when his muscles began cramping and he was incapacitated. Thankfully, everyone left the incident unharmed.

NMU is a Division II school located in Marquette, Michigan on the southern coast of Lake Superior. Hopefully, Rinkines and his teammates have a successful season. Either way, he’s already made the play of the year in our book.
