Northwestern has a football head coaching vacancy to fill after the dismissal of Pat Fitzgerald. A prominent recruiting expert suggests the program should target a rising B1G assistant.

247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong says Michigan’s Sherrone Moore should be one of Northwestern’s first calls to be the next head coach of the Wildcats.

Moore, who turned 37 in February, is entering his 6th season on Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan staff. He coached tight ends from 2018-to-2020 before becoming the offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator in 2021. After changes to U-M’s staff, Moore will be the Wolverines’ sole offensive coordinator in 2023.

In addition to coaching Joe Moore Award-winning offensive lines in 2021 and ’22, Moore is also a force on the recruiting trail. Moore is currently ranked the No. 8 recruiter overall in the nation for the 2024 cycle. As for B1G recruiting, he’s behind just Penn State’s Terry Smith, Ohio State’s Brian Hartline and Donte Williams of the incoming USC Trojans.

As a 2024 recruiter, Moore has helped land 6 of Michigan’s 25 pledges, including 4 4-stars. Moore was the B1G’s No. 12 recruiter for the Class of 2023, per 247Sports’ rankings.
