Not that long ago, it looked like Notre Dame wanted to cut most of its ties with the B1G.

The Irish had backed out of annual rivalry games with Michigan and Purdue and had joined the ACC in sports that weren’t football. More games against ACC opponents were filling up Notre Dame’s schedule, as part of that deal, however.

But on Monday, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said he’s not interested in cutting ties with the B1G at all. Quite the opposite, actually, as he said he’d prefer to play at least one school from the conference every year.

So far, the Irish have been able to keep at least one B1G team on the schedule. In 2017, Notre Dame heads to East Lansing to play Michigan State. Michigan is on the schedule in 2018 and 2019, and Northwestern will also host a home game against the Irish next fall. In 2020, Notre Dame will travel to West Lafayette to take on Purdue.

And, of course, in 2020 and 2021, Notre Dame and Wisconsin will have a two-year series, with games being played at Lambeau Field and Soldier Field.

The Irish have also scheduled a series with Ohio State in 2022 and 2023.

It doesn’t seem like a ridiculous statement that Swarbrick is making, but just don’t expect Notre Dame’s schedule to be loaded with B1G opponents every year like it was prior to 2014.
