Notre Dame officially announces new head coach
It has been a crazy week for Notre Dame with the departure of long-time head coach Brian Kelly. Following the conclusion of the regular season, Kelly bolted for a huge payday and the SEC by taking over the LSU head coaching vacancy.
According to some reports, Kelly was trying to take 2 of his key Notre Dame assistants with him to LSU in DC Marcus Freeman and OC Tommy Rees. However, that duo is staying put, and one of them is the new head coach of the Irish.
Friday morning, Notre Dame officially introduced Freeman as the new head coach:

It has been a whirlwind couple of years for Freeman. The former Ohio State and Purdue assistant joined Luke Fickell at Cincinnatti as the DC in 2017. Freeman was with the Bearcats from 2017-20 and quickly became a rising name around college football.
Notre Dame lured Freeman away to fill the DC spot for 2021. Now, he will take over as head coach after just 1 season in South Bend. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the wake of Kelly’s departure to the SEC.
