Official worked Week 4 college football game despite reportedly being suspended for major error, per report
After a blown call that had a major impact on the outcome of Notre Dame-Cal, the ACC reportedly suspended an official.
Matthew Fitzgerald, who was the linesman for the game, called Cal offsides on a crucial field-goal attempt by the Irish, but after a review no Cal players were even close to being offsides.
The blown call led to Fitzgerald’s suspension, but he reportedly ended up working a Notre Dame game for a second week in a row.
Instead, he was part of crew assigned to Notre Dame at North Carolina. He worked a Fighting Irish game for the second consecutive week.

The ACC assigning Fitzgerald to a second straight Notre Dame game even after being suspended will cause many to question what caused the mishap.
Notre Dame has a bye week this week, so Fitzgerald won’t be on the officiating crew, but we’ll see if he works the next Notre Dame game.
