Ohio State DL, Michigan DB included on FOX analyst's Top 10 defensive 'breakout' candidates for 2021
A FOX college football analyst believes that two B1G players are strong candidates to be defensive “breakout” players in the 2021 season.
RJ Young recently released a list of 10 college football defensive players he expects to have a breakout year come the fall. Ohio State defensive lineman Haskell Garrett and Michigan defensive back Daxton Hill both made the list.
Young lists Garrett at No. 6 and Hill comes in at No. 10. Here’s the complete list:
- Malachi Moore, Alabama
- Elias Ricks, LSU
- Nik Bonito, Oklahoma
- Will McDonald, Iowa State
- Devin Lloyd, Utah
- Haskell Garrett, Ohio State
- Jalen Catalon, Arkansas
- Justin Flowe, Oregon
- Alfred Collins, Texas
- Daxton Hill, Michigan
Garrett enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season in 2020. First, it was an incredible feat just for the defensive lineman to play football this season, after suffering a gunshot wound to his face in the offseason while attempting to break up a fight in Columbus.
When he was on the field, Garrett totaled 20 tackles, which included 4 stops for loss and 2 sacks. He also had an interception for a touchdown and broke up a pass as the Buckeyes enjoyed a 7-1 season and reach the national title game.
Hill also enjoyed a solid year for Michigan during the 2020 season. He finished the year as the team’s second-leading tackler with 46 stops and was one of two players to record an interception for the Wolverines. Hill also broke up 4 passes.
It should be a lot of fun to see what both Garrett and Hill are able to accomplish with a full season in 2021.
These guys got next 💪😤
