Ohio State and Michigan don’t like each other, and that might be the understatement of the century.

On Saturday afternoon in Columbus, one of the best rivalries in college football was renewed in The Game, and not surprisingly tempers boiled over during a play in the 2nd quarter. It seemed innocent enough when Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard found receiver Jeremiah Smith on a pass near the left sideline.

Smith was wrestled out of bounds at about the Wolverines’ 38-yard line with a little over 11 minutes left in the first half, as Ohio State was trying to erase a surprising 7-3 deficit. Nothing to see here, right?

Wrong.

After Smith was pushed out of bounds, chaos ensued as players from both teams converged, jawing at each other as hated rivals are known to do. There was plenty of pushing and shoving, as the group of players involved grew and actually moved back onto the field. Then multiple flags were tossed in the air.

Amid the skirmish, the field judge was knocked to the turf.

With No. 2 Ohio State playing to keep its College Football Playoff hopes intact and Michigan playing to ruin those hopes, the stakes were high, just to add to the fierce rivalry itself. So, it didn’t take long for tempers to flare at the Horseshoe in the latest edition of The Game.
