Ohio State and Oregon delivered one of the best games of the 2024 college football season back in October. Now, the two sides are officially set for a rematch in the Rose Bowl for a College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

Dillon Gabriel starred in the first matchup between these two teams, finishing with over 370 yards of offense and 3 touchdowns in a nail-biting 32-31 win. Ohio State’s Will Howard was nearly Gabriel’s equal but ran out of time just short of enough range to try a potential game-winning field goal for the Buckeyes.

After that victory, Oregon would complete its path to a Big Ten title and 13-0 regular season, grabbing the No. 1 overall seed for the Playoff. Ohio State found its way into a first-round game vs. Tennessee after a loss to Michigan.

In that game, the Buckeyes erupted with an electric 21-0 start against the Vols. Tennessee would close the gap to 21-10 at halftime but another string of 21 straight points by Ohio State to open the 2nd half put things away for good.

By the time the final whistle blew, the Buckeyes had registered the 42-17 win to safely punch their ticket into the Rose Bowl rematch with the Ducks. And it will be must-see TV.

In spite of being the No. 1 overall seed, Oregon arguably has the toughest matchup of any team in the quarterfinals. But Dan Lanning’s group has shown they can beat the Buckeyes once, and they will need to do so again to reach the semifinals.

The Rose Bowl is set for a 5 pm ET/2 pm PT time kickoff on New Year’s Day on ESPN.
