Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray is the winner of the 2018 Heisman Trophy.
Murray beat out Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the award. Murray led the Sooners to a 12-1 record, a Big XII title and a trip to the College Football Playoff.
Tagovailoa was considered to be the favorite through most of the season, but Murray made a strong push at the end of the season, particularly in Oklahoma’s win over Texas in the Big XII Championship Game last week. He’s the second straight quarterback from Oklahoma to claim the award.
Baker Mayfield was the 2017 recipient of the Heisman Trophy.
Murray threw for 4,053 yards and accounted for 51 total touchdowns this season. He becomes the seventh player in Oklahoma history to win the Heisman Trophy.
Tagovailoa finished second in the Heisman voting and Haskins finished third.
