One popular college football game has already been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
A tweet from the organizers of the annual Southern Heritage Classic between Jackson State and Tennessee State announced that the game in 2020 has been canceled. It was scheduled to be played on Saturday, Sept. 12 in Memphis.
The game is just part of a three-day series of festivities, which included concerts. The events were scheduled for Sept. 10 through Sept. 12.
“Due to COVID-19, the 31st Southern Heritage Classic has been canceled,” the statement said on Twitter. “Refunds for the football game can be recieved at the point of purchase.”

According to WAPT, the annual event draws more than 75,000 people each year on average. Both Jackson State and Tennessee State compete at the FCS level.
The Southern Heritage Classic is the first major college football game to announce its cancellation.
