Oregon assistant Junior Adams reportedly leaving for NFL position
Oregon wide receivers coach Junior Adams is leaving Eugene to join the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff, according to a report from FootballScoop’s Doug Samuels.
Adams, who also holds the title of co-offensive coordinator at Oregon, has been on Dan Lanning’s staff since January 2022. He joined the program after 3 seasons with Washington and will leave for what will be his first NFL opportunity.
Thanks to a contract extension in March 2024, Adams was tied to Oregon through January 2026 with an annual salary of $700,000.
Adams was one of the top recruiters on Oregon’s staff, securing commitments from 5-star receivers Jurrion Dickey and Dakorien Moore in recent signing classes. Adams was also the primary recruiter for Kenyon Sadiq, who figures to have a big year as Oregon’s top tight end in 2025.
The 45-year-old assistant began his career at Montana State and has climbed the ranks, with previous stops at Eastern Washington (2009-13), Boise State (2014-16), and Western Kentucky (2017-18).
In Adams’ first season with the Ducks, Troy Franklin broke out in a major way. Then a sophomore, Franklin caught 61 balls for 891 yards and 9 scores after an 18-reception freshman campaign.
In 2023, Franklin and Tez Johnson helped rewrite Oregon’s record book with new program records for receiving yardage in a season (1,383 by Franklin), receiving touchdowns in a season (14 by Franklin), and receptions in a season (86 by Johnson). Then in 2024, 3 receivers (Johnson, Traeshon Holden, and Evan Stewart) all cleared 600 yards through the air — a first at Oregon since 2014.
With Johnson heading to the NFL and Holden exhausting his eligibility, the 2025 season was setting up to be a transitional one for Oregon’s receiver room. Now that Adams will need replacing, that’s even more true.
Stewart returns. And Oregon added Florida State transfer Malik Benson out of the transfer portal. Youngsters like Dickey, Justius Lowe, Kyler Kasper, and Jeremiah McClellan should all get looks in the offseason as well. And Moore is expected to contend for playing time right away.
With a new coach coming aboard, the slate will be clean for everyone.
