Oregon delivers scoop-and-score vs. Maryland off strip sack from Jordan Burch
Oregon is off and running after a sluggish start vs. Maryland. The Ducks have since shaken off that start with a major play from the defense.
This time, it comes from the work of star defensive lineman Jordan Burch. Fans are happy to see Burch continue to make plays in the backfield after his absence in the middle of the season.
With Maryland’s offense facing a 3rd-and-6, Burch was able to load up a pass rush and get after quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. He came around the edge and was on Edwards in a flash.
Burch arrived just as Edwards was winding up his throwing motion, but Burch broke the ball loose just before the QB started his forward motion. While the ball squirted forward, the officials let the play roll on with Brandon Johnson scooping the ball and rolling 60 yards for the scoop-and-score.
Officials would review the play with Edwards’ arm moving when the ball popped free. But replay showed the ball starting to move around before Edwards’ arm was coming forward, leading the officials to go with the call on the field.
Here’s how it all played out with Oregon building a 14-3 lead in the process:

It goes down as Burch’s first sack since returning to the lineup last week against Michigan. It is also Oregon’s first defensive touchdown of the season.
